They had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. And Sauber F1.

I really wish BMW-Sauber really should worked out better than it did. 2008 was tragic in that they stopped development when Kubica was doing well, and 2009 was tragic since they threw away 2008 to do very poorly.
It’d be nice to see Sauber make a return to Le Mans at some point. Given all the focus on history and tradition in motorsport, it would be especially cool to see another Sauber-Mercedes.

Yeah, they did decent in the constructors championship, with a 2nd in 2007 (after McLaren excluded, of course) and 3rd in 2008.

That’s where Sauber is from? I always assumed they were German or Austrian.

Oh yeah, I can’t believe I forgot, but I they’re well-known for watches as well. I guess it kinda ties in cuckoo clocks (I suppose it’s just a matter of scale). Whether they’re extravagant watches or cheap watches, they all like to play off the fact that they’re Swiss made.
Also: Swiss army knives. Cool as fuck.

Haha yes. The quote is from the Orson Welles movie The Third Man.
It comes at the tail end of a brilliant scene but the closing lines are about Italy suffering through 30 years of the Borgias but gaining Michelangelo, da Vinci and the Renaissance in the process. Conversely the Swiss had 500 years of peace and brought us the cuckoo clock.
Obviously the Swiss have produced some other notable things (the Swiss Guard still protects the Pope to this day), but that’s beside the point.

Almost forgot - my suitcase is a Victorinox. No blades in it, however.

I understand the Swiss have put quite a bit of their creative thinking into their banking establishment
